This week in science it was our third time doing the marshmallow challenge. With the same groups as the last two times we were in, we tried to build the tallest free standing tower. This week doing the challenge we built two towers. This week both of our towers weren't taller than our last tower. This week in some weird way even though our tower wasn't taller than our others i felt like we worked together better because we weren't able to talk.
This week in science working in the same old group for the third time wasn't any different. I think I learned that its being in a group with the same people for the whole year can be a good thing because we have already learned and know so much about each other. But it would have been good to experience these challenges with different people to see how others work. I also learned that in cases like the marshmallow challenge its good to have others working with you because you have extra sets of hands helping you. I think if I would have done this challenge by myself It would have been a complete failure!

TWIS #14
This week in science we worked in groups and talked about about hippo. Hippo stands for a group of scientific words, when people are talking about hippo they aren't actually talking about a hippo.
H- Habitat loss, when people cut down trees their destroying animals homes.
I- Introducing species, new species are introduced.
P- Pollution, gases and people are destroying animals habitats because we're filthy and we liter.
P- Population growth, when theres too many of one species living
O- Over consumption, Humans are using too many products, we'r over using things that we should control what we use.
This week in science i learned what hippo meant. What each letter stands for and its meaning. I learned about different oils and gases. I learned how to work in a group of 4 better, its hard when everyone has different ideas and opinions but its better to have ways of learning how to get along better. I learned that a lot of animals are endangered, and are losing their habitats because of what we're doing to their homes.

This week in science #13
If I were to remove all of the plants in the tank and seal it up the spider would eventually die, because plants go through the process of photosynthesis to produce sugar and oxygen. Spiders need oxygen to breathe and if there are no plants in the tank there would be no oxygen which would kill the spider.

This week in science 11
This Week in science we went out into the park to collect stuff to put into our spiders ecosystem. We made annotated documents, answering questions and summarizing what we collected and did when we went to the parks. We collected twigs, and leaves, pebbles, a rock and dirt. We put branches in our tank too. We accessed our prior knowledge, writing the definitions of what we thought on certain words.
I learned from reading on the internet spiders don't eat earth worms. So putting the worms into our tank was kind of pointless since the spider wont eat them. Worms do keep dirt moist so thats a plus. Spiders only eat specific types of worms and crickets etc. I learned new words and their meanings when we did the definition activity with post-its. This Month In Science #10
This picture was 1 of our ideas drawn out on paper, we ended up picking this idea for our final add. We are going to connect the two gears in our final add.
This week in science David was absent all week. We did some projects and activities with Jamie. We tested 3 different bottles of water to see which one was the cleanest. My group also worked some more on our transportation projects. The transportation and energy groups teamed up and did some experiments to see which objects used the most electricity. We also created surveys and went out to the streets to ask people to answer them for us. A few people from the human impacts institute came to visit us and help us create ideas for what we were going to put on our posters and t-shirts. We started our project, human impact add campaigns. We had to create adds, posters about our group, which was transportation. We had multiple ideas drafted but we decided to go with a particular idea because it would be the easiest to put on a t-shirt. We now are going to put our drawings on t-shirts.
This week I learned many different things. Like for one thing blow dryers use a lot of power when plugged in and on. I also learned that our school water was the dirtiest water from all three different types of water Jamie brought to school. I also learned that even when objects aren't in use or on, or plugged in they still use power. I also learned that people who work for the trains, i think their called commissioners are doing more work than ever before. Their trying to make the city a more comfortable and safe place. Where there could be less traffic and more places for people to hang out at. I learned that making an add campaign is really hard especially if your working in a group, because so many people have different ideas and different opinions on what we should and and how we should do it. So coming up with a final add was hard and a long process.

Surprise: Big Old New York City Is the Cutting Edge for Urban Transportation and a Vision for a Sustainable Future
In this article, the main point was that New York City's transportation commissioner, Janette Sadik-Khan, has changed New York City for the better. Shes made NYC streets a safer place to be, shes turned traffic streets into public hang outs. She has also secured huge grants from the Feds to improve the bus services. In this article they didn't use any graphs or pictures to support their evidence. The author argued that in the last 3 years Janette has helped New York City become a better city than any other transportation commissioner.
I liked this article because it showed me who is changing New York City around, its keeping me posted. I also liked that this article wasn't long! I agreed with this article that Janette is helping New York City because of all the things shes done so far to help the community and the traffic.

TWIS#9
This week in science, we dissected animals. I dissected a mouse. We opened up their bodies and identified some body parts. We looked at their anatomy and identified its gender. We also had to look up the animals before we started dissecting. We had to get background research on each animal even if we weren't dissecting it.
This week I learned about the different animals we dissected. I also learned new vocabulary. I learned how to tell the sex of an animal. I also learned that to dissect an animal can be very hard. You have to be very careful and gentle when cutting it open because if you cut to deep you can cut everything inside of the animal and you wont be able to analyze it.
My other group in my table dissected a frog and I dissected a mouse. One thing that functions similarly but appeared different would be the skin.My mouse's skin was very smooth, Martinique's frog's skin was very rough. Another would be the size of their legs, my mouse's legs were very small and flexible, and their frogs legs were large rough and hard to move. Lastly would have to be the size of their arms, my mouse's arms were very short and the frogs arms were very long, and its hands were also very and large.

TWIS #8
We started to study about animals this week.We had to take pictures of both the ventral view and dorsal view. After cutting open our crawfish we took a picture of the internal view. The posterior view was the part of an animal highest to the head. The anterior view was the farthest part from the head. One feature of the crawfish would be the chelipod or claw which is distal urpod. The crawfish environment would have to be the ocean.
I learned disecting is easy, but you need to have patience and you need to be cautious. I also learned working with a partner when disecting makes things easier and less stressful. I also learned chelipod is another word for claw. Its a smarter word. I also learned the crawfish mouth is not on its face its somewhere below where a persons neck would be.

TWIS#7
This week we have been focusing on finishing our project. This week we had to make several slides including the a tundra biome, animals that lived in the biome and what would happen if climate changes occurred. We also had to record our voices and put it in the slides, each person had at least 1 slide in my group.
This week i learned how to record our voices over a slide. I learned how to create slides in google documents. I also learned about the Arctic Tundra. Including what lives in the Arctic Tundra. The climate, and what plants have adapted to live there. I am still unsure about why we had to create animals that have changed if the climate had changed.

Cricket Investigation
Question: Do crickets prefer light or dark environments? Hypothesis: If I change the amount of light provided in the crickets environment then the side with the most light the crickets will like more because most crickets like light. Background Research: Crickets are omnivores. Most crickets prefer the light, it depends on the type of cricket. Only male crickets chirp. Crickets break down plant materials and they also like sweet liquids. Some things cricket eat include bread crumbs, dead insects plants and fungi.

This Week In Science #6
This week in science we continued to work with crickets. We are studying them and learning about them. We started experiments with the crickets. This week we also starting collecting data a couple different. Yesterday we used a different way to collect data and study the crickets. We made 2 different dichotomous keys and every group had different questions to answer on posters.

There's the flow chart style and the list style. The list style is more easier, It's multiple questions that divide things into groups until each object or animal is in its own group. This week in science #5
This week in science we started our 2nd unit. We looked at a lot of videos about animals and their behaviors. We finished our rocket conclusions. We have to do a cover page for our second unit. We observed the crickets this week. We wrote things we noticed and things observed on a chart and drew out a diagram of all the parts of a crickets body.
This week in science I learned the parts of a cricket. I thought that watching the videos was very entertaining. This week I also relearned how to write and complete conclusions for essays. One question I have is, why is our second unit about animal behavior? This week I learned about a rare bird.

This week in science #4
This week in science pretty much all we focused on was starting and finishing our plant investigation projects. Me and Alexa assigned everyone with things to do on the project we thought they were best at. Some things in the project that i did was the procedure for gathering all our data. Before we started the project we collected information on our plants growth. I also wrote out the heading for our project, the team members names and the title. I don't have any questions about the project or anything else we did this week.
This week, I didn't learn a lot of new things. We pretty much went over everything we learned before, and we spent this whole week focusing on completing our project. I did learn though how to make a graph on a laptop. I also learned how to make a data chart by watching one of my partners, Andy set it up on his laptop. I also re-learned the difference between the background information and the procedure for gathering data, because their similar in a way but their not the same.

This week in science #3
This week in science we focused on launching our plant investigation projects. We worked on independent and dependent variables. We also measured our plants. We made our hypothesis for our plant investigation and we had data day. Which is we spent our time in class collecting data, every group got a certain question and we had to collect data from every person. The whole class just finished taking a quiz.

This Week In Science #2
This week in science we worked with poppers. We asked experimental questions, and then we acted them out. We also started our second plant investigation. We're using Brassica rapa seeds this time. We are also not using bags.
This week in Science we learned about the BrassicaRapa plant. We reviewed independent and dependent variables. We also learned how the plant needs a certain color of light to grow. It doesn't really depend on the the temperature. I also learned that the symbol used for the plant is BRRA.
